ABIGAIL: The MELODRAMA
Loosely based on the Biblical account of David and Abigail with a wild. wild west setting. When Abigail's father, Owen Lots, can't pay the rent Abigail has to marry the despicable landlord Nabal. It's David to the rescue! Or is it Abigail rescuing David by helping him avoid unneeded bloodshed?
Throughout the story God's providence is emphasized. The audience gets into the act when cued by signs. Run time approximately 33 minutes. Flexible casting 7-18.
ESTHER: The Melodrama
A Somewhat Melodramatic reader's theater version of the Old testament book of Esther broken into 9 scenes. It has 21 roles with doubling possible.
Haman, the villain plots against Esther, our heroine, and her people in this script that brings the Bible to life in a unique manner. An optional Bible study is included.
The Widow's Oil Melodrama
Based loosely on 2 Kings 4, this humorous melodrama has 6 speaking roles and room for non speaking extras as children and people at court.
What will the poor widow Ann Teek do when all that is left for her family to live on is some cod liver oil? Will Robin DaPoor and his henchman, Noah Count prevail? Reader's theater version can be used as a radio show format or adapted to a full production. Run time approximately 20 minutes.
RUTH: the Radio Melodrama
Ruth and Naomi may be thrown out of the pitiful little hovel they call home if they can't pay the rent to villain Black Bartholomew. Will Boaz step up to the plate and save Ruth before its too late? This comedic radio version can be done as a reader's theater and uses the audience to provide the sound effects typical of a melodrama ("Boo Hiss" etc.)
Run time approximately 35 minutes. 8 characters with non speaking assistant(s) to hold up cue cards for audience.
